For many children and young people, fostering is often their first positive experience of family life. This course provides everything you need to know to become an excellent foster carer. You will gain knowledge of the qualifications and duties, the roles, and the procedures involved in becoming a registered foster parent. We also explore relevant laws and regulations and the impact of fostering on the foster family.

We begin by exploring history, covering early informal and contemporary formal foster care. After that, we discover what foster care is and the distinct types of it, such as emergency fostering, short-term breaks and remand placements, and their characteristics.
Next, the course investigates the foster carer's role and the areas of work with their respective responsibilities, such as helping children reach their potential. Then, you'll study abilities and prerequisites, like having time and willingness to learn and participate in training programmes. The procedure of becoming a foster parent is described, along with how to obtain the necessary information, identify a suitable foster care agency, and receive compensation and benefits for this fulfilling career.
Finally, the course discusses the laws and regulations regarding fostering, including the Care Standards Act 2000 and the Children Act 2004. Following that, we will learn about some pros and cons of fostering for the foster carer's children.
